So… Riki and I weren’t strangers as partners and we got into quite a lot of high jinx on our last episode together a month ago but WHO KNEW things get even crazier just by adding a MAN (to be pronounced MAH-YUHN from now on in this blog) to the mix?
There was literally NO TIME for chilling out in this episode. It was a constant barrage of corny (good corny though, I say) jokes, lively banter, endearing bullying, spunky guests and even pimping out of said guests.
We kicked of the show in standard URock fashion (which in my mind is accompanied by imaginary screams from an imaginary mosh pit about a hundred-thousand strong at least) and then introduced our “supposed” (you will find out the reason behind the quotation marks later on in this blog) topic of the evening which was, “PACQUIAO: A true hero or someone played up by the media to be one?”
ALTHOUGH I think we pretty much digressed from that a bit when I mentioned I did NOT watch the fight which, as I soon realized, was kind of like punishable by URock law. Okay no, I KID – but I think Guts had a bit of fun poking fun at me for it to get me back for coercing him into telling that corny (bad corny – bad, BAD corny) Ricky Hatton joke earlier in the episode.
MOVING ON… after a confession on Riki’s part of a somewhat disturbing desire to become the second Mrs. Pacquio (hala, I bet her boyfriend is not TOO happy with that) and a few more songs by our talented URock bands, we welcomed our first guest of the night in our iMarket Manila segment. Ms. Evert of Evert’s Desserts shared with us some delectable information about her equally delectable products. She made Riki, Guts and I very happy indeed by allowing us to sample her very moist, soft, sumptuous treats. And let me just say, she has oatmeal chocolate chip cookies to rival even Mrs. Fields!
Next on our guest list were the lovely ladies of Olive Juice Productions. The four females promoted their launching gig “Midpoint” on May 15 at 6 Underground, an event which they say, has the aim of bringing the north and south together for a night of good music and good company. They were also pretty successful in enticing our listeners with bands to want to sign on to be managed by their group – even Guts and UR Academon Bambam were clammering for cards!
Other noteworthy events thus followed. First, we inducted a new band into our URock roster (Fade into Oblivion from College of St. Benilde) by playing their song “Suicide Note” for the first time on the airwaves. Then, we had a couple of what Riki so affectionately called “baby Rock-A-Thon’s”: The URock Block wherein we play three songs from three different college bands for our listeners without interruptions. Although, there was SOME challenge in actually accomplishing that but I’m not sure I’m allowed to talk about that (AHAHAHAHAHA!!). All I’m going to say is that, thank GOD for good adlibbing.
We also welcomed a live band into our midst that really made the mood of the evening quite perfect. Pards from UP Manila really set us a-grooving to their soulful, bluesy tunes that rainy Monday night. With a sound reminiscent of Lynard Skynard, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young and maybe a bit of Led Zeppelin edge, the boys of the quartet really won the hearts of our listeners – especially with their last number, “Everything is Going to Be Alright”.
If all that wasn’t enough, we had quite the surprise when who else but Sir Derick De Borja, our GSM Blue Mixologist suddenly showed up! We were previously informed of the unfortunate news that we would not have him visit us anymore with his mixed drinks but turns out he still has 3 episodes left with the URock Team. We were very happy, albeit rushed to squeeze him into our remaining minutes. We did what Riki dubbed as a “Fast Track” (this woman does quite a lot of dubbing…) and finished introducing his drink, sampling the drink ourselves and picking a caller to tell us the ingredients of the drink and win prizes… all in less than maybe 3 minutes!
This is why, my readers, I mentioned we only had a “supposed” topic for the evening. We were sadly able to touch upon the Pacquiao topic very little. It was a very “jam-packed episode” to quote Ms. Arci (our Associate Producer and Jedi Master) but I think that’s what made this episode really FUN. I was all sorts of happy-exhausted when we stepped out of the booth to reward ourselves with more Evert’s Desserts and GSM Blue Mixed Drinks (Orange and Melon) with our guests.
As our flushed but smiling faces in our signature shot for the evening suggests, the evening was definitely another great night for University Rock and a testament to why Monday nights at NU107 are definitely something to tune into with diligence.

i seem to be getting a steady stream of blessings. seriously.
- there was no traffic on my way to the airport.
- i was able to get a really nice porter who helped me check in---there was absolutely no line there too coz i was pretty early.
- i met justin aquino and his brother mico while waiting at my flight's gate. they were taking the same flight as me!!
- i met paolo enrile and his family as well!
- the guy that sat beside justin and mico agreed to trade seats with me so i was able to spend my flight with two good friends!
- sina justin and paolo are staying in close proximity to where i'm staying so hopefully they'll remember to give me a call so we can meet up.
- everyone from our airport in the phillippines to the flight to the LA airport were really nice to me. i had no trouble at all.
i would've been quite at a loss otherwise. justin was constantly reprimanding me for my lack of airline savvy---and rolling his eyes excessively which, with his eyes, seems all the more insulting. hahahahahahahahaha!
but it's not like i can really HELP it. the last time i was on a plane to the states (or anywhere else for that matter) was when i was 2 and a half and i hardly remember anything from that.
so anyway... more on my trip soon. i have to sleep!!!!!

when you're almost to your destination they will hand out these pamphlet thingies that you NEED to fill out... if you're really near na but you still haven't gotten one call one of the flight attendants or else magagaya ka sakin cuz my stupid flight attendant didn't give me one so i had to wait at immigration for forever and a day....

when you get to LAX (thats the airport your gonna arrive at) just follow everyone out you're all going to the same place...

when you get to the place where there are a lot of like counters and lines look for IMMIGRATION its on the pinaka right of the place.... if you get lost wag kang mahiya mag tanong...

get in the line for immigration and do whatever the dude tells you to do... like give him the pamphlet dont press down when hes getting your finger print give him the packet etc...

then he'll tell you to get your bags from the spinny thingy... look for your airline's name... your flying PAL right?

note to my besti: since mostly what you want is what i want too, i hope you don't mind that i didn't change them anymore.
1. in a physical sense, preferably taller than me and considerably attractive. definitely. i mean, think of our children. AHAHAHAHAHA! but really, no one can disregard the importance of physical attraction in the long run.
2. is fit. hahaha goodness, i know i'm not the poster girl for this but i AM planning to start exercising soon---and take up a sport. so i'm not really requiring an athlete but i want him to be healthy right? physically fit! physically fit!
3. someone who has an intellectual brain I can pick apart and still be absolutely mystified. i have nothing better to add to that.
4. he's got to be game. hahaha. i mean, i have my limits myself, of course. but i can go absolutely nuts and he's got to be able to go along with that. like if i want to on an unplanned gimmick, scream out of the sunroof of an SUV or if i want to go dancing. he can't not dance. he can be a bad dancer but he still has to dance anyway.
5. he's an absolute gentleman who knows how to take care of me. i'm a malambing person by nature so he's got to be like that too. he can expect that i'll take care of him so i'd like to feel the same about him. and by taking care, i don't just mean pampering (all though that would be great once in a while). he's got to know how to handle my feelings. i can be pretty high-strung. and so faithfulness and loyalty comes in big-time here.
6. he's a good conversationalist. he's got to be witty and funny, and not just one of those. definitely. and he's got to be able able to speak and express himself well: articulate with good diction. i could not take it if he was barok, i'm sorry. I have to be able to talk to him openly about almost everything. indeed. he's someone who i can discuss and debate all my opinions with and who can shut me up properly about them. plus, i talk a lot and it tears me apart to keep stuff from people i love so i've got to be comfortable enough around him to trust him with all of it.
7. he's dresses and carries himself well enough. i'll get all OC and irritated if he dresses badly. it's not like i'm superficial but i like clothes and i like them to be worn well. besides, confidence is a good thing to have in proper amounts. shy boys annoy me.
8. he's an artist---at least at heart. before, i thought this would have to be sort of like a bonus but now i realize it has to be a requirement. i love art and i love creating it---especially music and literature. he's got to be able to keep up. i'd love it if he could make it and not just talk about it either. BIG, BIG bonus if he can sing.
